MISERICORDS  IN NORTH SOMERSET

This 16th Century misericord at Worle represents the pagan god, Janus, who is frequently shown with two heads;
one to look over the old year and the other to look forward to the new.

The months and the seasons are represented on many misericord carvings
and this one is obviously January, the month named in honour of Janus.
